We all have been on countless diets from time to time, and have eventually crashed on them. We find ourselves frustrated and tired of the yo-yo effect, and we ask ourselves, "do diets really work?" Yes and no is the answer to that question and I will tell you why. I will split up the two sections to make it easier.
Yes, diets don't work.
Have you ever tried to restricted yourself from your favorite foods, only to become grumpy and agitated? We all end up convincing ourselves to come off the diet to enjoy our favorite foods once more. Our mood starts to change from bad to good as we indulge in what our hearts desire. We then gain the weight back we worked so hard to lose. Does this sound like you. Well don't despair. Its actually good for you to not restrict yourself. You may say, "that's the reason why I'm overweight in the first place." Its not what you eat, its how you eat it and what time you eat that makes the difference. Are you curious? Well scroll down and read the next section.
Yes, diets do work.
First, try rewarding yourself for your hard work. Remember, rewards work. Everyone gets paid after a hard week of work. So your weight loss goal shouldn't be any different. Pick two days to reward yourself out of the week. Make sure to reward yourself in the middle of the day. Late night eating is a bad ideal for anyone. If you have to eat late at night, try buying a low calorie, low fat treat, and wait an hour before going to bed. If you cheat that's ok. Reserve your cheat nights for when you have the cravings. Do not eat huge meals. Eating huge meals will make you gain all the weight back and leave you feeling hungry later. Eat smaller meals throughout the day. Eat 30grams of protein and 30grams of carbs early in the day to give you fuel, and less carbs as the day gets later. For women, it is best to eat 20-25grams of protein.
Make sure to eat no more than 30-40grams of fat per day, with most of the fat being early in the day. Stick to this formula and exercise three times a week for at least 30-45 minutes and watch the pounds fall off. Remember, exercise will help you lose the weight, but how you eat will help you keep it off.
